How Stainless Steel Propellers are Made

Video Transcript: How a Stainless Steel Propeller is Made.

A CNC machine cuts out the tooling from a propeller design.

The tooling is injected with wax and compressed to make a wax mold. The wax mold is dipped into a slurry mix. This process is repeated by robots until there is a thick ceramic shell.

The ceramic mold is heated before the molten steel can be poured. The molten steel is then poured into each ceramic mold. The propellers are left on the rack until they cool. The propellers are then polished and cleaned.

Each propeller is inspected for quality. Finally, a robot measures the propeller for precise pitch.
